Constipation
In Ayurveda, constipation is known as Vibandh. It is often considered a common problem but, if it is not treated in time, it can lead to further problems such as fissures, fistulas, piles, lack of appetite and indigestion. Treatment for constipation and other associated health problems such as acidity in Ayurvedic medicine is more holistic than other treatments which treat just symptoms.
What Causes Constipation?
- Constipation is often caused by unhealthy eating habits, consuming highly processed and non-fibrous foods, and not drinking enough water.
- Foods like white flour, instant oatmeal, white sugar, flavoured yoghurt, cookies, pastries, and high-fructose corn syrup contain high carbs that negatively affect gut microbes.
- Stress is also linked to bowel disorders.
- Due to carelessness and laziness, people suppress nature's call at the wrong time. How can one Avoid Constipation?
Women should consume at least 25 grams of fiber per day and men should consume at least 35 grams per day for natural constipation treatment. Every day, eat prunes, raspberries, pears, apples, lentils, beans, and almonds. Chronic constipation can be healed with a high fiber diet.
- Maintain hydration - To ensure proper absorption of fiber in the digestive tract, supplement a fibrous diet with adequate fluids. Water is the simplest fluid. At Least 1.5-2 liters or eight glasses of water is recommended.
- In order to treat metabolic disorders like IBS, it is crucial to feed your gut with good bacteria. Probiotics (healthy bacteria) and prebiotics (food for the bacteria) increase the level of beneficial bacteria in the gut.
- Broad-spectrum antibiotics should be avoided - The amount of bacteria in our gut is reduced when antibiotics are consumed indiscriminately. The antibiotics kill both good and bad bacteria indiscriminately and do not distinguish between them. This leads to a chronic imbalance in the gut, which can trigger gastrointestinal problems.
- Asanas such as chakrasana, cobra pose, triangle pose, etc., can enhance digestion and relieve constipation and inflammation. Yoga is unbeatable when it comes to health benefits. Taking a 30-minute walk every day has unparalleled health benefits.
